Overwhelm and stress are prevalent in today’s society. We live fast-paced lives, often with no time to BE. I’ve compiled a list of my favorite ways to quickly stop anxiety and stress in its tracks and get you back on the path to peace and calm!
1. ๐ฝ๐ค๐ญ ๐๐ง๐๐๐ฉ๐๐๐ฃ๐: Breathe in through your nose for the count of 4, hold for 4, breathe out of your nose for the count of 4, hold for 4. Repeat this 5 -10 times or until your system calms.
This is a beautiful way to not only distract your mind, but allow your nervous system to calm naturally by activating your parasympathetic nervous system. This has been shown to lower your cortisol, which is a stress hormone, and may lower blood pressure as well. The great thing about this – it can be done anywhere and no one will know!
2. ๐๐๐๐๐ฉ ๐ฎ๐ค๐ช๐ง ๐๐ฉ๐ฉ๐๐ฃ๐ฉ๐๐ค๐ฃ: This sounds simple, but it is truly the fastest way to get out of stress and overwhelm. Simply move your attention to anything that brings you joy or is neutral. Do this often and the anxious thoughts will rapidly dissipate.
This is THE quickest way to begin moving out of stress and anxiety and into calm. The mind likes to focus and often, perseverate, on things that we have no control of. The more often you shift your attention from the things that are stressing you out, the more easy it becomes to naturally move yourself into a state of peace. To be clear, this is not bypassing of the emotions, but rather not giving energy to situations or experiences you can’t control or change in that moment.
3. ๐๐๐ ๐ฉ๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐๐ฃ๐: This is a phenomenal technique I teach all of my clients. You begin tapping on specific meridians while stating a phrase as simple as โI am safe, I am calm.โ Youtube has some awesome demonstrations of this.
As you begin to practice these techniques, they get easier with time and you may even find yourself unconsciously doing this to enhance your feelings of peace and to reduce anxiety or overwhelm!
